Third Culture Media is an independent Canadian production company based in Toronto, Canada. Entertaining and thought-provoking, Third Culture has earned a reputation for producing high quality narrative-driven content that explores the intersection of different cultures on screen. Our content is developed and produced for traditional and digital platforms in partnership with Canadian broadcasters and funders (CBC, CMF, Ontario Creates, Hot Docs CrossCurrents, Rogers Doc Fund and the Michaëlle Jean Foundation). Third Culture Media productions have screened at festivals across Canada, North America and Europe and sold to Air Canada and the CBC.
Maya Annik Bedward is a Toronto-based filmmaker of Jamaican and French Canadian origin. She holds an MA in International Communications from the University of Leeds and a BA in Political Science and Cinema Studies from the University of Toronto. After working in the UK and Brazil, Maya returned to Canada where she launched Third Culture Media with support from the Michaëlle Jean Foundation. Her short films have screened at Hot Docs, TIFF, Black Star and the New Orleans Film Festival. Maya is a recipient of the WIFT-T Business of Broadcasting Mentorship and a fellow of the inaugural EFM Doc Toolkit Program. Committed to fostering a more equitable and inclusive industry, Maya is Board Secretary at the Black Screen Office and a committee member of BIPOC Film & TV’s Directors for Change Working Group.
Kate Fraser is a Toronto based film producer. She has an extensive background in community media programming, community arts funding, and social work, which informs her work in film. Kate is a producer with Third Culture Media where she produced The Foreigner, winner of Best of Showcase and Audience Choice Award WIFT showcase, 2015 Jury Prize Honourable Mention Breakthroughs Film Festival and winner of the 2015 Best Female Director aluCine Film + Media Arts Festival. She co-produced A Hidden History: The Story of the New Orleans Tribune Official Selection of the 2016 New Orleans Film Festival and the 2017 Regent Park Film Festival. Most recently she completed The Haircut, produced in partnership with CBC Short Docs.
